Jane Whalley celebrated her 21st birthday by laying on a banquet for her guests. They were so impressed that she decided to make cooking her career. A course at Leith's of London was followed by a ski chalet season, an invitation to spend a season cooking on a private yacht and the chance to lay on banquets for the rich (and sometimes famous) of London society.
Now, after years of experience as a high-end freelance chef, she has opened a ‘foodie’s paradise’ in a beautiful corner of south-west France - in the Lot et Garonne which is just south of the Dordogne, with her French husband, offering a blend of holiday relaxation and top-notch cooking instruction.
In the book Flavours from the Flying Gourmet she has distilled some of her skills and experience into an inspiring, not to say mouthwatering, introduction to her art.
